Catalog Course Description

This course is a continuation of BARB 102 and includes advanced theoretical knowledge and techniques in shaving and trimming of the beard. Shaving shall include but is not limited to the following techniques and procedures: Preparing the client's hair for shaving, assessing the condition of the client's skin, performing shaving techniques, applying after-shave antiseptic following facial services, massaging the client's face, and rolling cream massages. Trimming of the beard utilizes clippers, trimmers and shears while considering facial shapes. 70 lecture hours, 70 lab hours.

Course Objectives

  • Identify the diseases and disorders of the skin.
  • Explain the anatomy and physiology of the skin, face, and neck.
  • Perform a skin analysis and facial treatment.
  • Demonstrate facial massage movements on a client.
  • Perform a shave service on a client
  • Perform a beard and mustache trim on a client.

    1. Infection control
    2. Basic guidelines for shaving
    3. Razor direction and zones
    4. Razor safety
    5. Mustache and beard design and facial shapes
    6. Hair types
    7. Types of razors
