Catalog Course Description

This is the introductory course for students majoring in barbering. The course includes the theoretical exploration and basic practical application of a variety of subjects including shampooing, draping, hair and scalp analysis, long haircutting techniques, hairstyling, infection control, health and safety, rules and regulations, basic anatomy, and basic electricity. 120 lecture hours, 120 lab hours.

Course Objectives

  • Describe and perform infection control and disinfection procedures for implements and tools used in barbering.
  • Consult and correctly recognize and identify hair and scalp conditions and treatments.
  • Perform a client consultation and complete a service on a client.
  • Perform the four basic haircuts on a mannequin or person.
  • Perform basic hairstyling techniques such as braiding, blow drying, and use of hot tools.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and communication skills.
