Catalog Course Description

This course is designed to prepare students for licensure and employment. The topics include working in barbershops, interviewing, money management, selling, customer service, client consultation, building a clientele, types of businesses, building a business, and product knowledge and uses. It continues the exploration of professional ethics, public safety, state board rules and regulations, and health and safety. 70 lecture hours, 70 lab hours.

Course Objectives

  • Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of services requested in a barbershop.
  • Effectively communicate with clients and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Apply California Cosmetology State Board rules, regulations and safety requirements properly.
  • Perform a complete client consultation focusing on the client's wants and needs.
  • Build a strong work ethic to be able to succeed in a competitive industry.
  • Differentiate the advantages and disadvantage of employee, independent contractor and entrepreneurship.
  • Create a resume in preparation for licensure.
  • Prepare for licensure by taking weekly written state board practice tests.
