Catalog Course Description
This course includes technical and practical lab application of haircoloring and chemical texture services. Haircolor services shall include but not be limited to hair analysis, predisposition test and strand tests, formulation and mixing, categories of haircolor, coloring, bleaching, color removers. Chemical texture services shall include but not be limited to hair analysis, chemical straightening using sodium hydroxide and thioglycolic solutions, and chemical waving using acidic and alkaline solutions. 120 lecture hours, 120 lab hours.
Course Objectives
- Explain the chemistry behind hair color and chemical texture services.
- Identify the categories of color, their uses, formulating, and application.
- Identify the types of chemical relaxers, their uses, and application.
- Identify the types of permanent waves, their uses, and application.
- Explain color theory, underlying pigments, and levels.
- Perform haircolor, lightening, and chemical texture services on a client.
