Catalog Course Description
Open by audition to students interested in developing more experience in choral or instrumental techniques unique to the large Master Chorale genre. Participation in public ensemble performances is required. Audition may include sight reading, tone analysis or musicianship proficiency for vocalists or instrumentalists. This course may be taken four times. 18 lecture hours, 18 lab hours arranged.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate understanding of requirements for large Master Chorale performances .
- Demonstrate skills in more advanced techniques of choral/instrumental blend, musicianship, professional performance techniques, intonation, and music-reading.
- Demonstrate growth in group setting where both vocal and instrumental skill sets are required.

- Overview of Representative Repertoire for Master Chorale Ensembles
- Review of Musicianship Technique Required in Master Chorale Performance
- Application of Sight-Reading Skills
- Performance Analysis (Tone Color, Blend, Intonation, Dynamics, Presentation, Musicianship, Preparation, Stylistic Accuracy)
- Development of interdisciplinary skills of vocal vs. instrumental performance
- Soloist vs. Chamber Ensemble Analysis
- Evaluation of Skill Set Progress
