Catalog Course Description
This course includes the study and performance of beginning level traditional and contemporary repertoire composed specifically for soprano and alto voices. Vocal technique and musicianship skills specific to treble ensembles will be covered. Public performance required. Audition required. 54 lecture hours, 18 lab hours arranged.
Course Objectives
- demonstrate a beginning level knowledge of treble chorus performance practices from a variety of vocal styles and periods
- demonstrate beginning level familiarity with major vocal compositions and composers in the treble chorus genre
- demonstrate an ability to apply beginning level treble chorus skills in a public performance setting
- improve beginning level sight reading, improvisation and musicianship skills

- Beginning vocal skills in a treble chorus ensemble
- Introduction to rehearsal practices and professional guidelines
- Introduction to performance practices throughout the genre
- Analyze beginning level treble chorus repertoire

- Preparation for beginning level musicianship and sight singing assessments
- Execution of public performances
- Analysis of public performances via audio and video recording technology
