Catalog Course Description
A more in-depth study of students' abilities and techniques in tap dance
progressing from the intermediate to advanced level. Increased emphasis on
style, speed and accuracy of sounds. 18 lecture hours, 18 lab hours.
Course Objectives
- demonstrate various complex techniques in tap
- demonstrate knowledge of correct vocabulary in relationship to movement
- demonstrate a more advanced knowledge of syncopation and rhythm as it applies to tap
- analyze movement when viewing performances
- execute complex center-barre techniques and combinations
- execute complex locomotor techniques and combinations
- maintain awareness of the body as it pertains to complex weight-change combinations (port-de-bras)

- Pull backs - singles, doubles, shuffles intermediate to advanced level
- Wings - singles, doubles intermediate to advanced level
- Rolling shuffles intermediate to advanced level
- Clips intermediate to advanced level
- Barrel turns
- Tap Combinations
- Syncopation turns intermediate to advanced level
- Rhythm tap intermediate to advanced level
- Time steps and time step combos
- Speed taps intermediate to advanced level
- Broadway choreography combinations intermediate to advanced level
Lab Content
- Practicum Barre Work - practicum and individual instructor correction of syncopated shuffles, skuffles and flaps intermediate to advanced level
- Practicum Center Floor Work - practicum and in depth study and repetition of Pull back sequences, wings, rolling shuffles, clips, barrel turns and other tap specialties as individual ability dictates intermediate to advanced level
- Practicum Combination Work - practicum and in depth study and repetition of various turns, rhythm combinations and Broadway choreography sequences intermediate to advanced level
