Catalog Course Description
Introduction to construction project safety, OSHA requirements, Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), roles, functions, common construction hazards, accident costs, liability laws, field safety methods and controls. 54 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- Understand the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
- Examine the fundamental components of a Safety Management System.
- Demonstrate understanding of role and responsibilities within the safety system.
- Describe and prepare a basic Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
- Demonstrate familiarity with the Cal OSHA Construction Safety Orders and their application to construction sites.
- Prepare for and pass examination to secure a Cal OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification.
- Describe the basic attributes of an effective culture of safety.
- Understand and explain the components of a construction site-specific Injury Illness and Prevention Plan (IIPP).
