Catalog Course Description
This beginning level art course will focus on art that is about you: home, street, community, transit, galleries and museums. The course will involve extensive use of local public transportation, art museums & galleries, and architecture as resources. Field trips are required. Funding percentage for arts programs, historical and current practices, will also be topics.  54 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- demonstrate a knowledge of aesthetic responses based upon critical thinking
 - analyze art based on composition, culture, style and medium
 - demonstrate knowledge of and analyze art as a non-verbal universal language of communication
 - demonstrate knowledge of various style of public art, artists and methods of construction
 - recognize and distinguish major monuments in public art, architecture and sculpture
 - compare artist works and use of materials and how it relates to the environment it is placed

Visit local museums and galleries e.g. LACMA-Los Angeles County Museum of Art, MOCA-Museum of Contemporary Art, Norton Simon Museum of Art, and write a 2 page critique/review of a specific piece of art in their collection.
