A.S. in Barbering
Barbering is the profession and practice of cutting, styling, grooming, and caring for men's hair, beard, and facial hair. The Associates of Science Degree in Barbering Program involves various skills, including haircutting, shaving, beard trimming, facial treatments, scalp treatments, hairstyling, haircoloring, and chemical texture services. The curriculum offers both theoretical and practical components of these topics with hands-on training with clients in a work-based salon setting. Students will experience up-to-date demonstrations of skills necessary to obtain a job as a barber stylist, product sales, platform artist, salon manager, entrepreneur, business owner and or educator.
A.S. Degree Level Student Learning Outcomes
Students completing the Barbering A.S. Degree will:
1. Be trained theoretically and practically in haircutting, shaving, beard trimming, facial treatments, scalp treatments, hairstyling, haircoloring, and chemical texture services
2. Demonstrate skills related to barbering using proper infection control procedures.
3. Be prepared to pass the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology written exam and acquire licensure.
This degree requires meeting the Citrus College General Education and proficiency requirements combined with completing all 5 barbering courses with a minimum grade of 75%. Students must have a minimum of 1000 clocked hours to complete the program and qualify to take the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology exam to be a licensed barber.
