Catalog Course Description
Fundamental principles of drug action, the application of specific drugs in the treatment of disease, and the appropriate nursing actions to maximize the desired outcome of therapy. 18 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate knowledge of expected therapeutic outcomes and adverse reactions to drug therapy for the drug classifications: gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, antibiotics, sedatives, hypnotics and those for skin disorders.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of dosage computation
- Demonstrate safe administration of medications using the "3 checks" and the "5 Rights of Medication Administration"."
- Define safe, ethical and legal principles of drug administration in compliance with the California Nurse Practice Act.
