Catalog Course Description

Vocational nursing students will explore the basic facts of human anatomy and the principles of physiology with selected clinical examples. 27 lecture hours.

Course Objectives

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of how the body functions in health and disease.
  • Identify normal and abnormal function of given organ system.
  • Define medical terms related to the various anatomical and physiological components of each organ system.
  • Explain and discuss in order of increasing complexity the levels of organization of the structure of an organism and the relationship of its parts.
  • Compare and contrast each body system assigned and relate how each is integrated to function as a whole.
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal functions of each organ system.
  • Develop nursing interventions and a care plan that will resolve individual client problems as they relate to the client's disease process.
  • Recognize diseases and injuries that adversely affect the structures and functioning of each body system.
