Catalog Course Description

An introduction into multi-imaging; digital camera systems; high power video projection from LED scenic video and large screen displays to content delivery systems. 54 lecture hours, 18 lab hours arranged.

Course Objectives

  • Have a basic understanding of a 2-3 Camera shoot for simple playback.
  • Have basic understanding of video presentation from a simple PowerPoint system, to a complex web-based interactive media delivery system for exhibition
  • Have basic understanding of how to adapt technology developed for other markets to live video events.
  • Have basic understanding of hardware and software to create visual effects
  • Have basic understanding of staging environments to include television studios, live concerts, sports events, press launches and exhibitions.
  • Have a basic understanding of indoor and outdoor LED, plasma and LCD displays; digital camera systems; high power video projection; LED scenic video; and digital audio

Major Course Content

  1. Assignment to production and performance responsibilities
  2. Preparation for production including necessary live video event techniques.
  3. Identify and safely utilize appropriate tools to fulfill production requirements for performance.
  4. Basic live video event terminology.
  5. Recognize and demonstrate collaborative responsibilities with the director, designers, and crew supervisors.
  6. Demonstrate and apply basic skills in running a live video event production.
  7. Create, maintain or construct basic live video production elements.

  1. calculating aspect ratio
  2. data transferring with Bnc cable, triax, multi-pin, Vga, Sxga, Wxga, Hdmi, DVI-I, DVI-D, firewire, HD/SDI and SDI
  3. setting up a two to three camera shoot
  4. setting up and rigging a high end projector on a truss, pipe, and theatre batten.
  5. setting up native resolutions
  6. LED wall rigging
  7. live event video set up and strike procedures
  8. video crew responsibilities and procedures
  9. backstage safety procedures
  10. basic electrical requirements for a live video event
  11. operating an HD and Analog video camera
  12. basic live event video signal path
