Catalog Course Description
This course provides the professional rescuer with the knowledge and skills to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) to a victim in an emergency. It follows the guidelines of the American Heart Association (AHA). 2 lecture hours, 2 lab hours.
Course Objectives
- Describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival.
- Describe all the steps in the Chains of Survival.
- Apply the BLS concepts of the Chains of Survival.
- Perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants.
- Describe the importance of early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Demonstrate the appropriate use of an AED.
- Provide effective ventilation by using a barrier device.
- Describe the importance of high-performance teams in a multi-rescuer resuscitation.
- Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for adults, children, and infants.
