Catalog Course Description

This course is a continuation of the skills learned in MUSE 222 at the advanced level and emphasizes further development of those skills. 36 lecture hours.

Course Objectives

  • Execute exercises that facilitate piano performance at a more advanced level.
  • Demonstrate proper fingering and pedal technique in the performance of selected piano literature.
  • Perform medium to advanced piano literature.
  • Incorporate ornaments from the major periods of Western music into interpretation of piano literature

  3. Four Octave Arpeggios – Major
  4. Four Octave Arpeggios - Minor
  5. Four Octaves – Major-Minor 7th
  6. Four Octaves – Diminished 7th
  7. Review Use of Pedals – Legato Pedaling
  8. Dominant Seven Chords
  9. Cadences – Transpose to All Keys
  10. Balance Between the Hands
  11. Counterpoint – Bach Two-Part Inventions
  12. Correct Practice Techniques
  13. Extension Fingering and Interval Study
  14. Chromatic Scale
  15. Broken Chord – Alberti Bass
  16. Ornaments, Baroque
