Catalog Course Description
Continuation of materials and skills developed in MUSE 101. Continued practice and skill development in melodic and rhythmic dictation, intervals, and sightsinging. Required of all music majors. 36 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- aurally recognize major, minor, diminished and augmented triads
- notate dictated melodies and rhythms in compound meters
- sight sing melodies combining rhythmic and melodic elements

- Review Aural Comprehension of Major and Minor Thirds
- Review Aural Comprehension of Major and Minor Seconds, Perfect Fourths and Fifths
- Establishing Tonality in Major Keys by Use of "I, IV, V, I" Progression
- Establishing Tonality in Minor Keys by Use of "I, IV, V, I" Progression
- Review Tonality in Major and Minor Keys by Use of "I, IV, V, I" Progression
- Recognizing Basic Melodic Patterns
- Recognizing More Complex Melodic Patterns
- Drills on Primary Chords in Major Keys
- Drills Involving Rests
- Rhythms
- Dotted and Tied Notes
- Melodic and Rhythmic Dictation

Examples of Outside Assignments
Over an 16 week presentation of the course three hours per week are required for each unit of credit. Two hours of independent work done out of class are required for each hour of lecture. Students will be required to complete the following types of assignments outside of the regular class time:
