Catalog Course Description

This course introduces the skills and techniques applied to sports officiating. Basic principles covered will include officiating conduct, communication, decision making, conflict management, fitness and injury prevention, legal rights and responsibilities, and professional development. 54 lecture hours.

Course Objectives

  • Evaluate the different officiating stlyes and applications.
  • Examine and analyze different decision making and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate conflict management strategies.
  • Evaluate fitness levels and programs to improve fitness.
  • Understand the legal rights, responsibilities, and code of ethics of officiating.
  • Recognize the governing bodies and competition levels of officiating for different sports.
