Catalog Course Description
A survey of Citrus College career and technical education programs and post-secondary education in California. A survey of career and education programs which will explore career opportunities and discuss career evaluation. The course explores the options and techniques for creating a unique resume, discusses interview strategies, and includes development of a personal education plan. Other topics include self-evaluation, decision-making, goal setting, time and financial management. 54 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- Compare and contrast personality characteristics and their application to CTE career choices and success.
- Explore the academic and career planning resources available at Citrus College
- Identify and analyze psychological and sociological influences on education, career, and personal decision-making.
- Explore the employment interview process specific to industrial technology careers and demonstrate skill in a mock interview.
- Analyze technical skills, interests, experience, and values and their application in developing an effective resume and cover letter specific to CTE careers.
- Identify decision-making processes and how such processes are used for career, education, and personal development.
- Analyze how personal values integrate into career and life decisions.
- Explore elements of financial planning and budgeting.

Examples of Required Writing Assignments
Students will research information related to their field of interest. A 3-5 page paper will be assigned where they will discuss their field of study, job outlook, and the education and skills needed in the field.
Examples of Outside Assignments
Informational Interview Assignment: Summarize results of informational interviews and evaluate in relationship to your chosen CTE Career.
