Catalog Course Description

This course will familiarize students with the Social and Behavioral Sciences associate degrees at Citrus and will also cover requirements for transfer into baccalaureate level majors. Important aspects of Social and Behavioral Science majors as an occupational choice will be covered as well as specific study strategies and resources available to promote student success. 54 lecture hours.

Course Objectives

  • Formulate a detailed educational plan
  • Describe the admissions requirements and selection criteria for transfer
  • Describe the prerequisite, major preparation and general education requirements\\nfor transfer into a CSU/UC
  • Create educational goals in relation to career goals, abilities, interests and values
  • Identify and plan for the use of learning and study adaptations and support systems\\nthat will enhance success
  • Research and summarize different levels of education and specialization options within the SBS professions.
  • Conduct occupational research on potential SBS career fields and local and national job opportunities
  • Develop a career plan for an occupation of choice relevant to SBS Careers, listing the appropriate classes, certificates, skills, and experience required

Examples of Required Writing Assignments

Students will be required to research a particular SBS professional pathway and write a report (3-5 pages) with information related to the career, income potential, any geographical limitations, and education pathways to achieve the occupational position. Students will be required to present the information to the class.

Examples of Outside Assignments

Students will be required to attend one office hour of a SBS faculty and write a summary of the interaction and topics covered during the office visit.
