Catalog Course Description
This course is a survey of the various functions, tasks, activities and environments of Construction Management and its disciplines. It covers the various aspects of residential, commercial and heavy civil construction, including today’s applicable common practices, recognized standard construction documents, codes, regulations, basic means and methods, systems, processes, key participants, professional ethics, as well as current and future trends. Emphasis is in examining the various construction management disciplines and career opportunities; helping prepare students for their Construction Management career and serving the construction industry at large. 54 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate understanding of the basic documents and regulations governing the construction industry and how they apply to construction management.
- Demonstrate understanding of basic construction management terminology.
- Examine the fundamental principles of construction management and identify the major canons of construction professional ethics
- Identify fundamental construction management structures and supporting components by using appropriate terminology
- Explain and classify different risk factors in construction projects
- Analyze the fundamental practice of construction and identify the key players within the construction organization.
- Compare and contrast the alternative project delivery methodologies employed in all sectors of the construction industry.
