Catalog Course Description

This course involves projects that will include problem solving in pottery form and surface design and decorative techniques. Other related topics include the effect of various firing and glazing methods and exhibit preparation. 36 lecture hours, 72 lab hours.

Course Objectives

  • Analyze library materials for research and development of ideas
  • Execute ten new decorative techniques
  • Create a variety of pottery forms specifically designed for some decorative treatment
  • Describe three alternate methods of glaze firing and tell how the various methods effect the final appearance

  2. Research Ideas for New Pottery Forms that Lend Themselves to Surface Enhancement
  3. Produce a Minimum of Ten New Surface Treatments Suitable for Later Use
  4. Investigate and Record Effects of Three Different Firing Methods
  5. Discuss, Evaluate and then Produce at Least Three Pieces Suitable for Exhibit
  6. Final Review and Evaluation
