Catalog Course Description
This course is an introduction to music from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century. Instruction includes basic music theory, a study of prominent composers, and a survey of musical forms. Recommended for music majors and non-music majors. 54 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- demonstrate knowledge of basic music terms and concepts
- recognize instruments of the orchestra
- recognize and classify historical styles and musical genres
- Attend and critique a live concert.
- Identify cultural and historical influences on music during the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Broque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century.
- Identify by definition and sound the basic music forms.
- Name significant composers in each time period.
