Certificate in Public Works Inspection

This certificate program is designed to prepare students for entry-level and promotional positions in the public works sector and heavy civil construction as well as general engineering type projects. Job opportunities include:

- public works inspector,

- public works maintenance worker,

- lead worker,

- and other supervisory positions.

Instruction in an overview of the inspector’s role and responsibilities; including Portland cement and asphaltic concrete, soils and trenching, base and subgrades, concrete footings, structural and reinforcing steel, Cal-OSHA requirements, inspection reporting, and recordkeeping is emphasized in the coursework.

Certificate of Achievement Level Student Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Public Works Inspection Certificate of Achievement will:

  1. Evaluate and analyze the various elements of a public works construction project for conformance to applicable project contract documents related to quality of work, safety and contract documentation.
