Catalog Course Description
A course in which students will gain practical experience while participating in a variety of off-campus concert productions in any of the following: Assistant Lighting Designer, Assistant Production Manager, Assistant Technical Director, Assistant Master Electrician and Assistant Video Lead. 36 lecture hours, 54 lab hours arranged.
Course Objectives
- solve problems in concert touring through the ability to interpret working drawings and plots in the set up of lights, sound, video and staging systems
- demonstrate knowledge on the set up and operation of static and intelligent lighting consoles to include but not limited to ETC express, ETC EOS, GrandMA, HOG, Virtuoso and Avolites.
- demonstrate knowledge on the set up and operation of digital and analog sound consoles
- demonstrate proficiency in the skills required for an assistant for a live concert.
- demonstrate and employ basic skills to assist in the technical demands of a live concert production
- execute the responsibilities in pre rig, show run, and strike
- demonstrate knowledge on the set up and operation of video systems for a variety of venues
- assist leads in executing a live concert through planning and execution
Major Course Content
- Preparation to assist in concert production including necessary touring techniques.
- Identify and safely utilize appropriate tools to fulfill concert requirements for performance.
- Basic technical theatre and concert touring terminology.
- Advanced knowledge in lighting, sound, staging and video systems.
- Recognize and demonstrate collaborative responsibilities with the promoter, designers, and crew supervisors.
- Demonstrate and apply basic and advanced skills in running a concert.
- Create, maintain or construct basic concert production elements.

Examples of Outside Assignments
Research on the use of stage lighting and sound equipment currently used in concerts. Research to include but is not limited to a variety of operating techniques and abilities of consoles and stage lighting instruments as well as diagnosis of control protocols such as digital multiplexing.
