THEA 155: Single Camera Production

• Demonstrate understanding of the workflow of the production process from idea to completed production including successful teamwork
• Demonstrate basic understanding of digital video camera operations in both technical and aesthetic aspects to acquire quality content
• Demonstrate an understanding of lighting a shot correctly for any deliverable and choose equipment accordingly.
• Demonstrate understanding of the workflow and techniques of audio in the video production process from recording to mixing for the best final product.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the post-production process in order to produce complete cohesive projects.

1. Lighting setup, power, safety, demonstrating multiple techniquesOverview of pre-production, production and post-production relative to final output, script/storyboard, production roles, professional standards of working with crew and talent, legal and ethics, budget and documentation
2. Basic camera functions, elements operation: types of cameras, lenses, zoom ranges, lens speed, lens iris and aperture, f-stops, white balance, basic filters, viewfinders, camera operation including recording formats, tripod use and external recorders and displays
3. Picture composition: framing shots, aspect ratio, composition, movement, angles, shot sizes
4. basic lighting equipment: types of lights and color temperatures, safety, use of diffusion/flagging. And techniques: key lights, natural light, background and shadow.
5. Intro to location audio including microphones types, use and appropriate placement, recording equipment, basic audio post-production with appropriate blend/balance/perspective/etc
6. Post-production: non-linear editing workflow, ingest of content/logging/timecode, understanding of file formats and aspect ratios as relating to final output, editing techniques for continuety and pace, basics of video graphics and titling, and specifications of project deliverables including appropriate compression techniques
