Catalog Course Description
This course involves preparation and participation in collegiate jazz competitions. This course may be taken four times. 54 lecture hours, 72 lab hours arranged.
Course Objectives
- Provide overview for competitive collegiate jazz competitions.
- Learn techniques applicable to competitive collegiate jazz competitions.
- Apply techniques learned in rehearsal to performance in competitive collegiate jazz competitions.
Major Course Content
- Development of tonal skills for competitive jazz environment.
- Development of rhythmic skills for competitive jazz environment.
- Development of reading skills for competitive jazz environment.
- Development of articulation skills for competitive jazz environment.
- Development of stylistic jazz phrasing skills for competitive jazz environment.
- Development of improvisation skills for competitive jazz environment.
