Catalog Course Description

This course includes the study and performance of advanced level traditional and contemporary repertoire composed specifically for soprano and alto voices. Vocal technique, sight-singing, and musicianship skills specific to treble ensembles will be covered. Public performance required. Audition required. 54 lecture hours, 18 lab hours arranged.

Course Objectives

  • demonstrate an advanced level knowledge of treble chorus performance practices from a variety of vocal styles and periods
  • demonstrate an advanced level of familiarity with major vocal compositions and composers in the treble chorus genre
  • demonstrate an ability to apply advanced level treble chorus skills in a public performance setting
  • improve sight reading and musicianship skills at an advanced level

  1. Overview of diverse repertoire available for treble chorus ensembles
  2. Advanced vocal skills in a treble chorus ensemble
  3. Introduction to rehearsal practices and professional guidelines
  4. Introduction to performance practices throughout the genre
  5. Analyze treble chorus repertoire
  6. Study arrangements and styles of various periods
  7. Preparation for musicianship and sight singing assessments
  8. Execution of public performances
  9. Analysis of public performances via audio and video recording technology'
  10. Observation of live professional and collegiate concerts
