Catalog Course Description
This course is a continuation of the first semester intermediate guitar (MUSE 240). Course includes solo guitar playing techniques, and ensemble playing. 36 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- play barre-chords in all positions
- play contemporary chord voicings and progressions in all keys
- improvise on II, V progressions using standard improvisational techniques
Major Course Content
- Scales, modes and chords used in commercial music
- Improvising over standard ii, V, I chord progressions
- Classical guitar techniques and solo repertoire development
- Guitar styles; introduction to guitar music from Renaissance to the 20th century
- Introduction to ensemble playing and score reading
- Introduction to guitar ensemble repertoire
- Skill development in ensemble guitar playing
Examples of Outside Assignments
Individual practice and rehearsal of exercises and techniques provided by the instructor
Memorization of chord and scale patterns, common terms, and techniques as related to the guitar
Selected listening to guitar music of various styles
