Catalog Course Description
This course continues the development of skill begun in MUSE 140. In addition, the following areas are covered: barre chords, additional accompaniment techniques, and major and minor scale patterns in first position. 36 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- play common barre-chords
- read beginning guitar music in first position
- play major and minor scales in first position

- Review of basic guitar terminology and tuning and technique
- Introduction to barre chords
- Review and exercises of first position note reading
- Chords and exercises in the key of F
- Introduction to scales and scale types
- Note reading exercises
- Introduction and exercises to moveable chords
- Introduction and exercises to moveable scales
- Moveable I, IV, V7 chord progressions
- Accompanimental techniques and exercises
- Common chord extensions used in popular music
