Catalog Course Description
2D and 3D Computer-aided design (CAD) for students seeking to enter the engineering and engineering technology fields. This course covers the principles of engineering drawing and sketching for mechanical design, the use of computer graphics and solid modeling in design representation of 3D objects along with assemblies and simulations as well as ASME standards on geometric dimensioning and tolerances. 36 lecture hours, 108 lab hours.
Course Objectives
- Prepare engineering drawings using a CAD platform for 2D and 3D drawings.
- Apply proper dimensioning techniques using CAD.
- Calculate interference or clearance fits required for assembly designs.
- Insert text and data in drawings.
- Demonstrate the application of design features such as extrusions, radius and fillets and cuts.
- Perform necessary dimension, clearance or interference calculations for designs.
- Develop a 3D model of an existing product based in direct measurement.
