Catalog Course Description

A continuation of the theory of professional haircutting techniques and procedures introduced in COS 141. Lectures, demonstrations and practical experience in the following areas: women's haircutting, men's haircutting and clipper cutting. 120 lecture hours, 120 lab hours.

Course Objectives

  • Demonstrate and perform advanced haircutting techniques using haircutting tools--shears, razor, clippers and texturizing shears.
  • Practice safety, sanitation and disinfection procedures for electrical and non-electrical equipment.
  • Effectively translate the various forms of haircutting: solid, uniform, increase layer, graduated and combination form, into more complex haircuts and designs.
  • Interpret and identify various haircutting techniques by observation and through written form.
  • Design and comprehend advanced haircutting texturizing techniques.
  • Identify complex haircuts by demonstrating and modeling through audio visual/live demonstration.
