Catalog Course Description
Survey of the visual arts and architecture in India, Southeast Asia, China, Korea and Japan from the prehistoric era to the present. The course is intended to provide a cultural perspective and offer an historical framework for understanding the major monuments of Asian art as well as the religious, philosophical and political ideas that generated their production. 54 lecture hours.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate knowledge of aesthetic responses based on critical thinking
- Recognize historic styles and techniques
- Evaluate forms, functions and the interrelationships of art and culture
- Critique an art style as related to the culture which produced it
- Compare stylistic eras
- Compare individual artist's styles
- Recognize and distinguish major monuments of paintings, drawings, sculpture, and architecture
- Demonstrate a knowledge of art as a non-verbal language of communication
