Catalog Course Description

This course involves preparation and participation in collegiate Tenor Bass chorus competitions and festivals such as the CSU Long Beach Choral Festival, the Riverside City College Choral Festival, or the Biola University Choral Festival. This course may be taken four times. Audition required. 18 lecture hours, 18 lab hours arranged.

Course Objectives

  • Provide overview for competitive collegiate choral competitions
  • Learn techniques applicable to competitive collegiate choral competitions
  • Apply vocal techniques learned in rehearsal at performances

Major Course Content

  1. Development of tonal skills in choral settings.
  2. Development of rhythmic skills in choral settings.
  3. Development of reading skills in choral settings.
  4. Development of articulation skills in choral settings.
  5. Development of stylistic phrasing in rehearsal and performance.
  6. Development of musical interpretation skills in rehearsal and performance.
