Catalog Course Description
Students participate and perform in a master class setting. Functional skills include repertoire, technique, memorization, sight-reading, solo, and ensemble playing. Additional weekly focus will also include exposure to various musical composers, literature, styles, and genres. 18 lecture hours, 60 lab hours arranged.
Course Objectives
- demonstrate elements of good musicianship and memorization skills through analysis and practical application, including accuracy of notes, rhythm, pitch, breathing, etc. as appropriate to student's master class performances at the beginning level
- demonstrate musical skills and techniques improvement to the instructor through master class demonstrations at the beginning level
- demonstrate practical knowledge of musical styles, genres, and interpretation through master class performances at the beginning level
- Improve student understanding of musical composers, literature, styles, and various genres at a beginning level

- Overview of beginning practical musicianship skills and technique application
- Overview of beginning literature and repertoire performance techniques
- Overview of memorization techniques
- Analyze musical composers, literature, styles, and various genres at a beginning level
- Perform and observe solo and ensemble presentations within a master class environment
